Sisterhood Programs
Knitting and Crocheting Group
Since its inception in 2005, Sisterhood’s Charity Knitting group has donated over 2,500 handmade items to six different community agencies. The items include shawls for nursing home residents, chemo caps, preemie hats, large Afghans, and small lap blankets. The group meets multiple times throughout the year on Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the Sisterhood room. Yarn in all colors and variations is available at the meetings. Announcements appear in weekly emails, the KOL, Sisterhood email blasts and on the synagogue’s webpage. Please contact Denise Hodes for further information.
Z’Havah
Z’Havah is a group within Women’s League of Conservative Judaism affiliated Sisterhoods for women under the age of 50. The purpose of Z’Havah is to attract and involve younger Sisterhood members who are the future of our organization and its leaders of tomorrow. Specific programs and events geared toward this age group are held several times a year. Programs are advertised in Sisterhood email blasts, on Sisterhood’s Facebook page, the synagogue’s webpage and the KOL. Please contact Bonnie Gordon for further information.
Book Club
Beth El Congregation’s Sisterhood Book Club has been in existence since 1998. It began as Jewish women reading Jewish female authors exclusively, alternating between fiction and nonfiction. In 2003, the group agreed to include male authors, but the emphasis continues to be on female writers. Also, since 2003, Beth El’s library has a complete list of books read over the years, as well as copies of many donated by participants. The group meets approximately six time each year, on a Sunday morning or evening. Peruse the list of books we’ve read.
